Roofer

SALARY RANGE:

Starting salary for a Roofer is $18.00 per hour when completing roofing repairs, etc. and they will be paid piece work when they are working on the roof. Roofers who possess applicable licenses, skills, the hourly rate is dependent on experience and quality of the work performed.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

The purpose of this operating procedure is to establish and define the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities, duties, and measures of performance for a Roofer position at Ainger Group.

The basic functions of the Ainger Group Roofer are to:
  1. Be the front-line worker in the field performing their duties to the standards of Ainger Group.
  2. Be respectful of other co-workers and authority of supervisory staff.
  3. To produce a quality job in a timely fashion as allotted by the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  1. The Roofer is selected by and reports to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
  2. The Roofer reports to the team in place at any given time for the work that is completed, and to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor above them.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) – Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful.Experience: Ideally 1 or more Years Experience

Availability: Must be available Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons) and weekends on an as needed basis

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  1. Must be willing to work safely in the workplace;
  2. Knowledge of the proper use of equipment being used;
  3. Able to take direction to get specified work done in a timely manner with little supervision;
  4. Ably to work under pressure;
  5. Problem solving and the ability to adapt to changing situations and schedules;
  6. Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful;
  7. Demonstrate pride in workmanship and take responsibility for work completed;
  8. Able to work in inclement weather;

  10. Eager to learn and develop new skills and abilities.
AUTHORITY

The Roofers are selected and appointed by the Roofing Manager and/or Roofing Supervisor and are delegated sufficient authority, including the following areas, to successfully complete the duties and responsibilities that are assigned to this position:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Responsible for making sure that they work in a safe and respectable manner at all times including the mandatory use of their Fall Arrest Safety Gear and PPE (Safety Footwear, Eye Protection, Ear Protection, Skin Protection);
  2. Responsible for maintaining the high standards of appearance and workmanship on each site that is specified in the contract;
  3. Responsible for replacing damaged or rotting joists or plywood upon discretion of the Manager and/or Supervisor;
  4. Responsible for installing underlayment materials as specified for each contract;
  5. Responsible for installing shingles, asphalt, metal or other materials to make the roof watertight;
  6.  Responsible for aligning roofing materials with edges of the roof;
  7. Responsible for cutting roofing materials to fit around walls or vents;
  8. Responsible for covering exposed nails or screw heads with roofing cement or caulk to prevent leakage;
  9. Responsible for completing work within the specified timeframe;
  10. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workspace and appearance at all times;
  11. Must have all inspections fully completed daily and ready for the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor to hand in on the required days;
  12. Expected to have a constant flow of communication with the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor regarding any problems, plans being changed, or problems with other staff;
  13. Responsible for reporting any safety concerns to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor immediately;
  14. Responsible for advising when maintenance to machines, or breakdowns occur;
  15. \Responsible for reporting to the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor of any misuse or damages to any company owned equipment, or damage done or observed on sites;
  16. Responsible for following the rules and practices set forth in the company employee Policy and Procedure Manual and the company Health and Safety Manual. Report those unwilling to do the same.
  17. Responsible for notifying the Roofing Manger and/or Supervisor of any materials that you require in advance (day before) in order to keep things moving forward;
  18. Represent the company in a professional manner at all times;
  19. Ask Questions for advice or about things they do not know; and
    Perform any other duties and tasks as may be directed by the Roofing Manager and/or Supervisor.
Language Skills:
  1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written in the English language;
  2. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; and
  3. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of Ainger Group.
Mathematical Skills:
  1.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; and
  2. Ability to perform these operations using units of money, weight measurement, volume and distance.
Cognitive and Reasoning Ability:
  1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; and
  2. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands:

Physical Stamina and Strength: Roofers must have endurance to perform strenuous duties as they spend hours standing on their feet, kneeling, crouching or crawling, bending and stooping – often in hot temperatures – with few breaks. Roofers often lift and carry heavy materials that weigh 60 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and depth perception.

Balance: Roofing is often done on steep slopes at significant heights, because of this; workers must have excellent balance, but must wear Fall Protection Equipment as trained.

Unafraid of heights: Roofers work at significant heights and must not fear working far above ground

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristic described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, hot and cold weather and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions throughout the year. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Team players who are energetic are needed for growing company in Collingwood.  We offer full time year round work.  Must have a minimum of 1 year experience shingling experience.  Requirements are a Valid G License, working at heights certificate, safety boots and hard hat.  Knowledge of building codes and safety standards is also required.  We offer competitive wages that are based on experience as well as piece work.
